In my opinion, one of the most valuable things while travelling is the food. In Portugal, you will find great meals in almost every restaurant because they make a traditional and homemade food. It´s recommended to avoid restaurants aimed to tourists. Here you will find my favorite places to eat, even I have been thinking not to write one of them to keep the secret but it´s better to share this valuable information.
9. Príncipe do Calhariz Calçada do Combro 28, 1200-012 Lisboa +351 21 342 0971 www.principedocalhariz.pt
Very close to the Luis de Camoes square and just beside Park terrace.
In the picture below, Picanha, typical cow meat from Brazil, with rice and black beans. It´s just delicious!!!!
10. Restaurante Taverna d`Alcântara R. Gilberto Rola 37, 1350 Lisboa +351 21 395 5590 www.tavernadealcantara.pt
This restaurant is placed in the midway to Belem, in the neighborhood of Alcantara. You can take the bus lines 712, 713, 714, 727, 742, 751, 756, 773 and stop in Alcantara.

11. Carvoaria Jacto R. Maria Andrade 6A, 1170-132 Lisboa +351 21 814 7555
Very pleasant place, far from the city center and its specialties are grilled meats and seafood. It´s very close to Go Lisbon Hostel. A great option.
The most delicious dishes are: Bacalhau a natas (creamed codfish), picanha (cow meat from Brazil), bife de atum (Tuna steak), bacalhau a bras (scrambled codfish with potatoes), bacalhau grelhado (grilled codfish), sardinhas (sardines), espetada de camaroes (prawns stick) , frango grelhado (grilled chicken), polvo (octopus), lula (squid), bife com cogumelos (pork steak with a creamy mushrooms sauce) lombinhos de Tamboril gratinados com espinafres (fish with spinach)…..
12. Adega Das Gravatas Tv. Pregoeiro 15, Carnide, 1600-587 Lisboa +351 21 714 3622 www.adegadasgravatas.com
The translation of the name is the Tie Cellar (see picture of below) A friend of mine has advised about this place and it´s just an amazing place to eat. There are 3 more restaurants apart from this where you can go. It´s very useful to book before going because it´s very crowded.
Picture of below: Codfish with Cream. (bacalhau a natas)
13. A Cevicheria R. Dom Pedro V 129, 1250-096 Lisboa +351 21 803 8815
Perfect place to eat ceviche
3. My Story Hotel Rossio Praca Dom Pedro IV (Rossio Square), 59, 1100-200 Lisboa +351 21 340 0380 www.mystoryhotels.com
The restaurant is located on the first floor of the My Story Hotel. It is difficult to find, but it is in the Plaza del Rossio close to the train station. Its worth the trouble to go, BUT, if you reserve through “The FORK” app you will receive a 40% discount.
This is a real palace that has become in a gastronomic place full of restaurants. It is a nice place to visit for its architecture and decoration.
51. Mercado Da Ribeira
This is a market like the San Miguel in Madrid or Barranco Market in Seville. It´s a different place, always crowded and full of tourists. I prefer to avoid places like this because I think that they aren´t part of the essence and culture of the city.
Desserts are a strong point of eating in Portugal. Leave a room in your stomach to taste them. My favourite is the Bolo de Bolacha, like a biscuit coffee cake. JUST indescribable!
35. Embaixada https://www.embaixadalx.pt/
Embaixada is a new concept store, where different kinds of shops are mixed. There is a fantastic restaurant inside called GIN Lovers and LESS RESTAURANT where you can try more than 60 types of gin from the whole world.
It iss strongly recommended to visit just to see the building, the Ribeiro da Cunha palace. For a time, it was the Russian embassy.
